Prediction: Spain waiting for a significant drop in mortgage rates
Published: 22/01/2016
Start the new year was marked by political uncertainty and the fall in oil prices. However, for ordinary Spaniards 2016 minutes can bring at least two good news, forecast the bank Bankinter.
Firstly, the European Interbank Offered Rate (Euribor), which is tied to the most Spanish mortgages will inevitably negative: it can drop below zero in the first quarter and remain at that level in the remaining months of the year. According to the most realistic scenario for 2016 Euribor will be at around 0.1%, and may even fall to -0.2%, which will reduce the monthly payments on mortgage loans to their owners. Currently, the rate is 0.051%, while at the end of the year it reached 0,059%. If these forecasts come true, the borrower will be able to save money for at least another year and a half: it is expected that the Euribor will revert to zero milestone in the third quarter of 2017 and will be released only plus in the last three months of the year.
Another positive outlook Bank experts associated with a fall in the unemployment rate. They suggest that this figure will be reduced to 21.4% (as of the third quarter of 2015) to 19.6%, while the most successful scenario - and to 17.6%. These assumptions are much more optimistic than those that have been put forward by experts in the field of economy (20.4%) and mentioned in the state budget for 2016 (19.7%).
